CLIC Course for Medical Spanish Educators & Raters

Intended audience: This is a training program specifically designed for current or aspiring medical Spanish educators with varied professional backgrounds such as physicians/medical faculty, language professors, and interpreters.

Main instructional goal: To train and verify medical Spanish educators in the use of the Physician Oral Language Observation Matrix (POLOM). The POLOM is a valid rating and educational tool through which medical student and clinician medical language proficiency can be enhanced and/or rated.

Course Timeline and Cost:

Course dates: May 4 - June 14, 2026

Time commitment: Track 1 (Educator Track) involves 30 hours over 6 weeks, mostly asynchronous, with 10+ virtual meetings interspersed throughout the course. Track 2 (Educator + Rater Track) involves the 30 hour 6-week course, followed by a reliability testing process involving approximately 4 hours per week and varying in duration between 4-12 weeks depending on the participant’s progress.

Registration cost to pursue the CLIC Educator Track - THIS IS THE REQUIRED COURSE FOR ALL CLIC PARTICIPANTS: $3,500 (Note: A 3% processing fee will be added to all payments made by credit card.)

Registration cost to add-on the Rater Track: +$1,500. For full clarity, Rater Track participants must register for the Educator Track plus the additional Rater Track. The total cost of participation in the combined Educator + Rater Tracks is $5,000. (Note: A 3% processing fee will be added to all payments made by credit card.)

• Participants who meet criteria for successful completion will receive Educator and/or Rater certificates, as applicable.

Registration deadline: Spaces are limited and will be filled on a rolling basis, with a final deadline of April 13 or until spaces are filled, whichever happens sooner.
